About 40 km from Ajmer, a dog attacked the child in Kalesara village of Pisangan on the night of April 24.
A one-and-a-half-month-old infant was attacked by dogs while sleeping in a hut. The dogs mauled the baby for about five minutes, leaving his intestines exposed. The mother somehow managed to free him and lay over him to save his life.
The incident took place on the night of April 24 in Kalesra village of Pisangan, about 40 km from Ajmer. The critically injured baby has been admitted to JLN Hospital in Ajmer and is currently on a ventilator.
Mother was cooking outside
Kelam (30), a resident of Kalesra, said she was cooking outside the hut that night while her husband Makram was at work. Inside the hut, their one-and-a-half-month-old son Savra and three-year-old son Arvind were sleeping. In the darkness, dogs entered the hut and attacked the infant.
Kelam said she heard the baby crying loudly and rushed inside. The scene shocked her—several dogs were inside, and one had the baby in its jaws. She struggled for nearly five minutes, managed to snatch the child from the dog, and lay over him. Only then did the dogs run away.
Three-year-old sibling survived
Family members said the three-year-old boy, Arvind, was also sleeping in the hut but had covered himself completely with a blanket, which likely saved him from the dogs.
Condition critical, medical board formed
After the incident, the father rushed to the village in a hired vehicle and took the baby to the emergency ward of JLN Hospital. Doctors performed primary surgery overnight in an attempt to save him.
Hospital principal Dr. Anil Samaria said the child’s condition remains critical. He is in a coma and on a ventilator support. A medical board has been formed, and a special team led by Dr. Garima Arora is monitoring him round the clock. Doctors said further surgery will be planned once the baby’s condition stabilizes and he regains consciousness.
