Kakinada: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Kakinada Municipal Corporation of completely failing to control the stray dog menace in the city, following an incident in which four persons, including children and women, were injured in an attack by a rabid dog in Sambamurthy Nagar’s Thota Ammavari Street.

A BJP delegation led by district president Bikkina Visweswara Rao, Civil Supplies Corporation Director Enimireddy Malakondayya, and senior leader Duvvuri Subrahmanyam submitted a complaint to District Collector and Municipal Special Officer.

The BJP leaders said the municipal authorities were ignoring Supreme Court directives to prevent stray dogs from roaming on the streets and to establish permanent shelters for dogs with adequate food and water facilities.

They alleged that despite repeatedly bringing the issue to the notice of the Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration and other officials, no concrete action had been taken. The leaders warned that continued inaction could expose local officials to contempt of court proceedings and may also necessitate compensation for the victims.

The BJP delegation also pointed out that the Municipal Commissioner, who is additionally serving as Project Director of the Housing Board, is overburdened, affecting the functioning of both departments. They expressed concern that administrative lapses were bringing disrepute to the coalition government and urged officials to treat the stray dog issue with the seriousness it deserves.
