A man suffered serious injuries after being attacked by a stray horse in a village in Purba Bardhaman’s Kalna. He was subsequently rushed to a hospital for treatment.
The victim identified as Balaram Sadhukhan, a resident of Nimtala Bazar in Samudragarh, a prominent local market area in Purba Bardhaman district, was riding his motorcycle towards Santipur when he saw two horses roaming freely on the road near a petrol pump at Chapahati village in the district.
One of the horses suddenly charged at Balaram, bit him and even pulled him off his motorcycle. He sustained deep wounds and was bleeding profusely.
Locals were initially too scared to intervene, later one of them eventually rescued Balaram and took him to a nearby hospital in Chandpur. He was later referred to the Sub-Divisional Hospital at Kalna for further treatment.
Local residents said that the two stray horses have injured at least 12 people in the last two days. The latest incident has prompted the police to search for the owner of the horses.
The issue of the growing threat posed by stray dogs across the country was raised in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council by members Dinesh Kumar Goyal and Vijay Bahadur Pathak, under Rule-110, demanding urgent intervention from the state authorities.
Stray dog attacks have surged alarmingly in both urban and rural parts of the state, with citizens, especially children and the elderly, living in constant fear.
Despite being tasked with controlling the situation, municipal corporations, local bodies, and the health department have been largely ineffective in addressing the crisis.
Residential societies in major cities, once considered secure living spaces, are now witnessing packs of stray dogs settling within their premises.
With the increasing population of strays, incidents of aggressive behavior and intra-pack violence have also escalated, contributing further to the public safety hazard.
