India’s premier shot putter, Tajinderpal Singh Toor, etched his name further into athletic folklore on Saturday, September 26, 2026, by clinching a silver medal at the ongoing Asian Games.
This remarkable feat marks the 31-year-old athlete’s third consecutive podium finish at the continental marquee event, following his golden triumphs in Jakarta 2018 and Hangzhou 2022.
Competing against a stellar field, the powerhouse from Punjab put up a gritty performance. Toor secured the silver medal with a stellar throw of 20.64m, achieved during his fifth attempt.
The gold medal in a fiercely contested event went to Iran’s Mohammadreza Tayebise. Tayebise set a new benchmark by registering an Asian Games record throw of 20.81m in his second attempt, narrowly eclipsing Toor’s previous record of 20.75m that had stood since the 2018 edition.
Despite narrowly missing out on the top spot, Toor’s enduring consistency cements his status as one of India’s greatest field athletes. His ability to consistently deliver under pressure on the grandest Asian stage continues to inspire a new generation of Indian track and field hopefuls.
