The standing committee meeting of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation will be held next Friday. 8 items have been placed on the agenda for this meeting. A plan has been made to sterilize stray dogs in Vadodara city. This sterilization work will be carried out at a cost of 1.5 crore rupees. An expenditure of approximately 2800 rupees will be incurred for the sterilization of one dog.
Toilets will be built at 46 locations in the city
Keeping in mind the increasing population and the continuous expansion of the urban area in the city, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation is rapidly undertaking the work of building state-of-the-art ‘pay and use’ toilets at various important locations.
These facilities are planned as part of the City Sanitation Action Plan under the Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0 Sustainable Sanitation scheme. Under this mission, a total of 46 strategic locations have been selected across the city, where state-of-the-art aspirational toilets with a total of 452 seats will be constructed.
An amount of 11.30 crore has been approved for this comprehensive project, which indicates a cost of approximately 2.50 lakh per seat according to the calculation.
26 per cent share of the Central Government and 16 per cent share of the State Government
In the financial structure of this entire project, the Central Government’s share will be 26 per cent, and the State Government’s contribution will be 16 per cent, while the remaining major portion, i.e., 58 per cent of the expenditure, will be borne by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation from its own funds.
As the first instalment, a grant of more than Rs 1.15 crore, representing 25 per cent of their total contribution, has been allocated to the Municipal Corporation by the Central and State Governments.
Under the current first phase, estimated tenders worth approximately Rs 9.13 crore (excluding GST) for the construction of a total of 26 aspirational toilets in the East and West zones have been officially submitted to the Standing Committee for approval.
Daily maintenance cost for 5 years of operation
Looking at the zone-wise operational details, for the construction of 12 state-of-the-art toilets in the East Zone, the contractor Yamuna Decorators has submitted a bid of 4.30 crore (excluding GST), which is 7.50 per cent higher than the estimated tender of 4 crore.
Similarly, for the construction of 14 state-of-the-art toilets in the West Zone, the contractor H.K. Ramani has submitted a bid of 4.83 crore (excluding GST), which is 7.50 per cent higher than the estimated cost of 4.50 crore.
After the completion of this construction work, the corporation will have to bear the entire cost of operation and daily maintenance of these toilets for the next five years from its own funds to ensure that citizens receive well-facilitated services.
